***All Racers, Joel Perri, Super Stock #98 at RMNS wrote an awesome "RULES OF THE ROAD" post and wed like to share it with you guys. If you guys all follow these rules, 2005 will be a blast. Please read!
Well, it's been several months that I've been trying to get
peoples opinion on several things i.e. What is Rough Driving?, What is Cheating?
Why not provide Track Etiquette to new drivers? What to do on
the track? and several more I'm sure.
Some people answered, but it never seemed to get too much information on what is
what. It all came down to perception of
the rules based on each
persons experiences. We often find the "bad guy" isn't
such a bad guy except that they compete against ourselves or our favorite
driver. It also seemed that rough driving and cheating fell into
the same nothingness of
perception.
Well, I guess I wanted to convey my Interpretation of
Track Etiquette.
I learned a long time ago that you must respect your fellow racer enough to
understand that a lack of respect results in damage. I
could care less if you're the king of
the hill or a rookie. I'm going to respect
the fact that you took countless hours and a lot
of hard earned money to field a race car.
By paying the respect to my fellow competitor I also
expect the same in return. I respect you enough to lift
off the throttle a little so I don't get into you in
the corner. It's tough to do if you're on some mocho
trip thinking every pass is an affront to your manhood. I didn't come out to
duel it out with expensive race cars instead of fists.
If your manhood isn't in place before you get on the
track ....... you won't find it by beating the crap out
of your competitors car!
I came out to DUEL mono a mono without driving over or through you. I want to
pass my competitors by the slimest of
margins with just barely any paint transfer. I want to come underneath and work
my pedals and wheel to keep my car OFF my competitor and pull
of the pass coming out of
the corner.
I expect that if your snoozing at the restart you know
I'm going to wake you up with a bump. I expect the
same. I expect to lift off the gas if I can't get to
your door before corner entry. I will not take you around if all I have is your
quarter panel. I will expect the line if I'm at your
door. I will give the same.
I will start on your back bumper if you plan on brake checking and I will brake
check if you want to play bumper cars before the start.
If I'm lapping you and you're in the way I will bump
you once...... I will not run you out the shute and I
won't pinch you down, but I expect the same.
I will never attempt to take you around in revenge .... I EXPECT
THE SAME. I will not play games when I spin, I will get
my car going and take my lumps. I will fight for my spot on a yellow, but will
move upon first instruction from the officials. I will
leave the track upon first request from
the officials. I Expect the
same.
I will provide any part or lend any assistance my competitors may need. I will
ask before I look at someones car and its components. I will take
the time to introduce myself to my fellow competitors.
I will respect my fellow competitor enough not to blantantly go against
the rules. I also respect
myself enough to find any possible way to be faster within the
limits of the
rules. Nothing finer than winning against a cheater
when you're not cheating! Nothing worse than losing to a legal driver when
you're a cheater.
My competitive nature often leads me to be an extreme jerk. For my families sake
and that of my fellow competitors I will either enjoy
my race evening or go home! This is not Cup, it is a HOBBY, be cool to your
competitors!
